VIENNA HOFBURG

The start of construction of the original castle can be expected as early as the 13th century under the Babenbergs by King Rudolf I. Duke Leopold VI probably laid the foundation stone. The Bohemian King Ottokar II Premysl expanded the Hofburg for the first time.

In the middle of the 16th century, Emperor Ferdinant I moved his residence to Vienna and expanded the castle into the Hofburg. The area was generously expanded and numerous wings were added. A tour of the Hofburg becomes a tour of history.

The Imperial Apartments, the Spanish Riding School and, last but not least, the Sisi Museum are definitely worth seeing in today’s Hofburg. There, among the more than 300 exhibited objects, there are umbrellas, fans and gloves of the shy Sisi.

An overview of the Hofburg wings: Swiss wing, Stallburg, Amalienburg, Leopoldine wing, Reich chancellery wing, court library, Augustinian wing, Redoutensaal wing, Michael wing, ceremonial wing, Heldenplatz, Neue Burg and much more
