Our personal Vienna tips
Where Viennese themselves go
and what can only be found in Vienna
This is a growing collection of Viennese addresses that we ourselves enjoy visiting and have been recommending to our guests for years. The collection begins with restaurants and traditional inns – classics and personal favorites from our daily tours. In the coming months, museums, hotels, shops, cafés, and Heurige (traditional wine taverns) will be added.
Should you wish to discover Vienna more deeply or have your stay planned comprehensively, we would be pleased to advise you personally and put together a complete program.
Elegant, contemporary, and excellent. Buxbaum is popular with locals and visitors who want to understand Vienna today – not just yesterday. The cuisine is precise, the service attentive, and by the end, you’ll wonder why you don’t visit more often. Particularly charming is the tranquil courtyard in Heiligenkreuzerhof: a hidden garden restaurant that feels like a small oasis in the heart of the city. A place where you’ll gladly linger – and discreetly recommend.
Austrian classics with a twist: small, beautifully arranged portions of the finest quality that can be wonderfully combined and shared – and yet every plate is a proper main course.
Spacious, lively, atmospheric. A Viennese classic with plenty of room, a great atmosphere, and excellent wine from its own vineyard. On beautiful summer evenings, it can get very crowded here – that’s part of the experience and adds to its charm. The atmosphere is convivial, the clientele is mixed, and if you are lucky, you will sit in the shade of old chestnut trees with a view over the vineyards.
Hollerbusch is a wonderful example of how contemporary Viennese tavern cuisine can look today. The kitchen works with regional and seasonal products, placing great attention on vegetables and flavors—without being dogmatic. The menu changes regularly; many dishes are vegetarian or can easily be enjoyed as such, complemented by carefully selected meat dishes from good sources.
The atmosphere is relaxed, open, and warm, with a diverse mix of guests. A place where you quickly feel at home and, almost incidentally, get to know a different, very vibrant side of Vienna.
Harvest is a well-established name in Vienna’s vegan dining scene and a very pleasant place to arrive and feel at ease. The cuisine is entirely plant-based, prepared with great care, quality ingredients, and a genuine passion for flavor. The menu ranges from breakfast and brunch to warm dishes, cakes, and small classics—everything uncomplicated, comforting, and honest.
Its location at Karmeliterplatz is particularly lovely: relaxed, neighborhood-oriented, and a wonderful example of vibrant Vienna away from the main tourist crowds.
Reliable, shady, and typically Viennese. Popular with Viennese families who come here on Sundays to sit together at the Heuriger. The outdoor garden is spacious, the wine is good, and the buffet is down-to-earth. There is no show here—just an authentic Heuriger atmosphere without the tourist crowds, exactly the way locals like it.
Modern Austrian cuisine that takes its ingredients seriously. Seasonal, thoughtful, and without unnecessary frills—the dishes are clear, yet anything but arbitrary. The restaurant’s minimalist, almost Scandinavian design complements this approach: bright, calm, and pleasantly understated. Even the details are deliberately chosen—such as the custom-developed soap by Viennese perfumer Lederhaas. For those who want to understand what contemporary Austrian cuisine tastes and feels like today, this is the perfect place.
An institution for gourmets. At Lingenhel, everything revolves around quality, origin, and taste. Cheese, cold cuts, preserved specialties, selected wines – all chosen with great care. Those looking for a culinary souvenir from Vienna or simply wishing to sample are in the best hands here.
For me, the top address for authentic Viennese boiled beef—here, it’s celebrated like nowhere else. Landlord Ewald Plachutta has written the standard cookbooks that are essential in every Austrian kitchen—a piece of Viennese culinary history!
Austrian wines, fine products, and a historic vaulted cellar. Ideal for tasting, discovering, and purchasing. A place for all who wish to understand what Austria has to offer culinarily – and it is more than one might initially think.
The legendary sausage stand at Vienna’s oldest square—voted the most popular sausage stand in Vienna in the 2019 Falstaff poll. Everything here is just right: top-quality Käsekrainer and Waldviertler sausages, always grilled to a perfect crisp, fresh bread delivered three times a day, and an impressive selection of over 20 types of beer. Located on a traffic island in the heart of the city center, it is perfect for a quick snack during a walk through the city by day. However, it owes its cult status to its opening hours, which extend into the early morning: at night, bankers stand alongside punks, and opera-goers alongside night owls. Sami Ramadani has been behind the grill for 20 years—with all his heart. A place where you truly understand Vienna.
Located right by Graben, designed with gleaming gold stainless steel and white marble—truly eye-catching. The stand combines Viennese tradition with modern design. The selection of sausages is extensive, the Käsekrainer is excellent, and the location is ideal for a bite to eat after a shopping trip in the city center.
A classic Heuriger, just as one imagines it, with a courtyard and a view of the vineyards. Here, you sit under old trees on rustic wooden benches, drink Gemischter Satz (field blend wine) directly from the winemaker, and help yourself to whatever tastes good from the buffet: cold cuts, cheese, Liptauer spread, bread. This is how it has been done for generations. The Schübel-Auer is a genuine piece of Viennese wine culture, without frills, but with exactly the right atmosphere – relaxed, authentic, and convivial.
Veggiezz stands for modern vegan cuisine that brings uncomplicated joy. The menu features bowls, wraps, burgers, and warm dishes that are filling yet still feel light. Everything is fresh, well-seasoned, and put together in a way that makes you want to come back—whether you live vegan or are simply curious. With its two central locations, Veggiezz is perfect for a relaxed break while exploring the city.
A popular Heuriger in a quiet location on the edge of the woods. It offers typical Viennese snacks, its own wine, and an atmosphere that immediately helps you slow down. The terrace garden is particularly lovely, with tables right next to the grapevines—the view stretches out over the vineyards and quickly lets everyday life fade into the background. Perfect for a trip out of the city that still feels unmistakably Viennese.
