The story

In 1498 Emperor Maximilian I brought the first choirboys to court, and they have sung ever since: in the Hofburg chapel on Sundays, on tours around the world, and in the MuTh, their own concert hall at the tip of the Augarten. Around 100 boys aged 9 to 14 live and study in the Augarten palace, a Baroque mansion in the middle of the park.

The visit begins in the palace, leads through rehearsal rooms and the boarding school and ends where it is most beautiful: at rehearsal. Twenty minutes of listening as a choirmaster shapes one sound out of 25 children’s voices. Afterwards you understand why the Vienna Boys’ Choir is more than a postcard.

You do not hear 25 boys. You hear one voice.
