The Habsburgs ruled from here for six hundred years, and the Hofburg is still no ruin but the seat of the Federal President, home of the Lipizzaners and the largest residence a family ever built for itself. We walk through the Silver Collection with tableware for 140 guests, through the Sisi Museum with her dresses, poems and gymnastics equipment, and through the Imperial Apartments where Franz Joseph slept on a camp bed. It is about ceremony and escape, about an empress who did not want to be one, and an emperor whose coffee went cold because the protocol was so long. Afterwards a walk across Heldenplatz and the Volksgarten to the Sisi monument and, if you like, a detour to the imperial confectioner Demel.
Variant Hofburg in depth (3 to 4 hours): adds the Treasury with the imperial crown and the State Hall of the National Library.
Guide fee € 270 per group (2 hrs), € 350 (3 hrs) or € 445 (4 hrs) plus admission Sisi Museum and Imperial Apartments € 20 per person. For two guests € 310, for four € 350, all inclusive.
