Twenty minutes beyond the city limits the Vienna Woods begin, and with them a story Vienna still tells: in 1889 Crown Prince Rudolf died at the Mayerling hunting lodge; from then on his mother Sisi wore only black. We drive by minivan through the Helenental to Mayerling, visit the memorial in the Carmelite convent, then the Cistercian abbey of Heiligenkreuz with its Romanesque-Gothic cloister, where chant has been sung since 1133. On the way back, Baden bei Wien with its spa park, Beethoven house and a coffeehouse, or alternatively Klosterneuburg Abbey with the Verdun Altar. An excursion without long drives that works in the rain as well.
Pick-up in Vienna, drive through the Helenental (40 min.), Mayerling, Heiligenkreuz with guided visit, coffeehouse in Baden or lunch at the abbey inn, return, arrival in Vienna after five hours.
Per group: guide fee € 540 (5 hrs) plus minivan with driver € 410, together € 950. Per person additionally: Heiligenkreuz Abbey and Mayerling (venue admissions, confirmed with your request). For four guests around € 260 per person including admissions.
