Haas & Haas is Vienna’s tea house: a family business on Stephansplatz with a tea shop, tea house and tea salon, more than 300 varieties, plus jams, chocolate and a breakfast the Viennese queue for. The garden lies in the courtyard of the Deutschordenshaus, one of the quietest places in the city centre, a few steps from the cathedral.
Tea is taken seriously here, but not served stiffly. The Haas family explains what sets a Darjeeling apart from an Assam, why water has a temperature and how to brew a pot properly. And on Ertlgasse, with the Porta Dextra wine shop, they lead you down into the Roman cellars.
