The story

Where Ertlgasse meets Kramergasse today stood the eastern main gate of the Roman legionary camp Vindobona, the Porta Dextra. Haas & Haas have set up their wine shop and delicatessen here, and below the shop you descend four levels: Roman stone blocks, a medieval well, an 18th-century support column for the old Pummerin bell of St. Stephen’s.

Upstairs, Austrian wine from family estates, ham, cheese, bread. Downstairs, 2,000 years of Vienna in layers. Martha has worked with the house for years: the wine tasting with cellar tour is one of the most popular stops on our food tours.

Four floors down, a glass of wine turns into a journey through time.

Martha Tretter, artemezzo

What you experience

A tasting of four Austrian wines with a snack, plus a guided walk down through the cellar levels to the Roman gate. As the finale or opening of a city walk, as a wine tour of its own (two or three hours) or as a building block for corporate groups. Please note: the wine shop closes at 6:30 pm.
