In 1886 the pharmacist Alfred Blumenthal opened his pharmacy on Gumpendorfer Straße, between the Naschmarkt and Mariahilfer Straße. The cabinets, drawers and jars of the time are still there, and in 2006 pharmacist Alexander Ehrmann took over the house and called it Saint Charles: Apothecary, Cosmothecary, Alimentary, Eatery, all under the roof of traditional European medicine.
Around 400 products are made from local herbs, many in-house. Anyone interested in scent, plants and the history of Viennese pharmacies finds here a place where both come together: Art Nouveau cabinets and a very contemporary understanding of health.
