Around 1900 Vienna became, for a few years, the laboratory of modernism. Otto Wagner built the Stadtbahn and the Postal Savings Bank, Adolf Loos put a house “without eyebrows” opposite the emperor’s palace, Klimt and his friends left the Künstlerhaus and built themselves the Secession. On this walk we see the originals where they stand: on the Ringstrasse, on Karlsplatz, in the city centre. It is about facades, door handles and coffeehouse tables, about Freud, Mahler and Schnitzler, and about why such a short period still shapes the city today.
From the Postal Savings Bank via Stubenring and Stadtpark to Karlsplatz (Stadtbahn pavilions, Secession, Café Museum), through the city centre to the Looshaus and the American Bar, finishing on Michaelerplatz. With three hours, additionally the Majolica House on the Wienzeile and the Naschmarkt.
Guide fee € 270 per group (2 hrs) or € 350 (3 hrs), no admissions. For two guests € 135 per person, for four € 68.
