Rudolf Scheer & Söhne have made bespoke shoes since 1816, and nothing else. Emperor Franz Joseph had his shoes made here; today clients from around the world keep their lasts in the house: hundreds of wooden lasts stand on shelves like books in a library, each one a person’s footprint.
Markus Scheer runs the business in the seventh generation. The path to a shoe begins with measuring the foot and ends weeks later with the first trial shoe. There is no catalogue, no collection, only what fits the foot. The small in-house museum holds shoes from two centuries, among them children’s shoes for archdukes.
