The story

In 1814 Emanuel Pioté and Jakob Heinrich Köchert founded the workshop that soon supplied the court. Its most famous pieces are the Sisi stars: 27 diamond stars Empress Elisabeth wears in her hair in Winterhalter’s portrait. They are still made in the workshop today, from the old drawings.

The Köchert family runs the house in the sixth generation. Above the shop on Neuer Markt, goldsmiths and setters work as they did 200 years ago, only with better light. Those allowed to see the order books find in them the names of half the Ringstrasse.

A Sisi star is a story you wear around your neck.

What you experience

A conversation in the shop with a member of the family or team: the story of the Sisi stars, the order books, a glimpse of the setters at work. For small groups, by appointment. A core stop on the court purveyors tour.
