In 1814 Emanuel Pioté and Jakob Heinrich Köchert founded the workshop that soon supplied the court. Its most famous pieces are the Sisi stars: 27 diamond stars Empress Elisabeth wears in her hair in Winterhalter’s portrait. They are still made in the workshop today, from the old drawings.
The Köchert family runs the house in the sixth generation. Above the shop on Neuer Markt, goldsmiths and setters work as they did 200 years ago, only with better light. Those allowed to see the order books find in them the names of half the Ringstrasse.
